Area: Chadderton

Vote for me to be an Oldham Youth Councillor because I believe in a better Oldham. If elected I will try to arrange more youth events throughout Oldham.
I would try my hardest to voice the opinions of young people so that they get a say in most of what affects them and their lives. I feel strongly about what Oldham looks (e.g. litter problems). I would also like to campaign about healthy eating as I believe a healthier Oldham is a happier Oldham, plus it will help Oldham become for active.
I would like there to be more places for young people to go and spend recreational time, which is something I would like to campaign for.

So if you believe in a better Oldham – vote for me.

I feel strongly about equal opportunities for all, regardless of background, sexuality, race, religion, or disability and I uphold this ethos not only in my lessons but also in my social life. I accept people as individuals not as part of a "group" labelled by society.
I am a good listener and respect and value other people's views even if they differ from my own. I am dedicated, like helping people and have been looking for a way to contribute to the community. I would work hard to be an excellent representative for the young people of Oldham if you select me for this position.

I have been on the youth council for 2 years and would like to carry on being your Youth councillor. I have already got a great awareness of community cohesion as I have been Involved with the youth service since 2007.
I would like to stay on the Youth council so I can continue to work on improving things to do and places to go in Oldham.

I really want to continue being a voice for young people in Oldham so vote for me and you won’t regret it.

Rebecca Gibson
Area: Chadderton

Hi, my name is Rebecca Gibson and I want to be chosen in the youth elections because I can make a change and I can make difference. I understand that you are going to pick the person you believe that is cut out for the job and I feel I am the right person for this.
I know problems around the area and have a great imagination to fix them. I am very enterprising and I have initiative. I always come up with new ideas if my original plans don’t work out and I can take risks and solve problems.

I am already involved in something similar to the youth elections in school and I’m sure I can handle it. I hope to achieve a better background for young people as well as help solve problems. I would like to set up something that helps campaign against discrimination to teenagers and young people. Just because we wear our hoods up does that make us criminals? Does that make us any different? Should we be treated different? I don’t think so, what do you think?

I would love to be chosen for the youth elections and I hope you vote for me. Thank you for reading my manifesto. Goodbye! Happy voting!

Lucy Abigail Carr
Area: Chadderton

As a member of Oldham youth council I pledge to make the following issues my top priority:

I will listen to the points of view of others and make the decisions for change for all young people.

I will ensure that all the young people know about youth clubs, by publicising them with posters around schools and in the community, clearly outlining the different fun activities youths can get involved in.

I promise to help people who need it most- this could be young people in care or from difficult/different backgrounds. I will do this by using the youth services to set up- peer mentoring where young people make friends with other people who share a similar experience and help each other through life with support and advice.

I promise to raise awareness of recycling. I will encourage all young people to think about campaigns for environmental issues. Where places are dirty, it creates a bad impression and people don't want to live or play there.

I will use the media to raise awareness and help support young peoples point of view by getting newspapers to report on positive stories.

Cyber bullying on social media sites like facebook and bebo is a problem. In order to make more people aware of the dangers of sites I would raise awareness of government campaigns. Making more people aware would benefit them and help them to know what to do if they got in to a bad situation online.

If I am elected to the youth council I would propose the following :-
I would propose that we could turn an old mill or abandoned building in to a place that will provide entertainment for everyone i.e bowling alleys, cinemas etc.
I would also ask young people about what they would like in their community.
I am a year 7 student at North Chadderton School, I think that I can make a difference and benefit everyone no matter what age, sex, or race. I think that I would be good on the council because I can understand other peoples point of view, listen and create effective ideas to benefit schools and communities. I am a good leader because I can influence people to think about the choices and changes they can make to improve, their school and lesson curriculum as well as the way the community is ran. I am also a good team worker, very organised and focused, and I am open to suggestions from other people.

My existing values make me feel that I could make a difference and I hope you think that too. The above manifesto gives the reasons why I think that I would be a strong candidate for the role of being on the youth council.

I am very sociable and could speak to all young people and speak out for them to get facilities and funds for what they need, such as shelters in the parks, lighting where is needed and also get all the activities you want to do. You could get involved in sports and horse riding so you don’t get bored and so that people don’t get the wrong impression on youths, such as thugs. I would like to improve litter on the streets and around our centres and also get the decorated the way that young people want them. I think that we could help improve things so there is less racism in Oldham or we could even put a stop to all the discrimination happening in the borough.

Jessica Minihan
Area: Royton, Shaw And Crompton

My name is Jessica Minihan. I’m 15 and currently studying my GCSE's in applied business, geog and food tech at North Chadderton School.
I am on the school youth council and have been involved in making changes within my school for the interest of the students.
I think I would be good for Oldham Youth Council as I love taking on a new challenge and have a lot to say about the issues of young people. I am a positive person, full of enthusiasm and motivation and don’t give up reaching my goals.

My hobbies are volunteering at Crompton Swimming Club, being responsible for reassuring swimmers and helping them learn to swim and I volunteer at Netball Leagues at OCL, umpiring matches.

My Personal achievements are that I started swimming when I was 3 years old and began swimming competitively when I was 9 with which I have been to competitions all over the North-West and I have swam for Charities to raise money for illnesses such as Malaria. I now look at swimming from another side by teaching others.

I recently joined the Army Cadet Force and I believe since joining cadets I have learnt life skills: working as part of a team and self discipline.
As a youth councillor I hope to develop my personal confidence and help make the right changes for the young people that I represent!

Stacey Magee
Area: Royton

I am a reliable, caring out going person; I am also a good listener and speaker. If you vote for me I want to change the attitudes towards youths. People view youths negatively and I want to change that so it’s positive. I want to help people that are or have been bully victims and put a stop to bullying. I also want to improve the youth centres across Oldham, getting more activities and to make the centres more appealing to youths. This could be done as a community event so that everyone could leave their mark. The problem we have with racism is escalating so I want help prevent this by people visiting different communities and helping them integrate. Please vote for me and I will make a difference.

Nathan Dean
Area: Royton

People should vote for me because I am responsible and if you give me a chance I will stand up and fight for what you want. I will help to get lights on the parks and also help to get bus fares down or free for under 18’s. I want young people to get involved in sports and games and to have a fun time so you are not bored on the streets, I would like to change people views and show the positive aspects of youth activity locally and nationally. I would like to see more centres, youth busses and more facilities in the Oldham area and also get young people involved in social events such as equality and diversity.

Gemma Griffiths
Area: Royton Shaw and Crompton

My name is Gemma Griffiths . I am 16 years old and would like to be able to have a place on the Oldham Youth Council, as it would help me to show my skills that I have picked up throughout my time in school. It would also help me to learn new skills to use later on in life. When I leave school I hope to go to college and train to be a social worker so I think that being on the Oldham youth Council would help me a lot. I think by being on the Oldham Youth Council would be a good opportunity to help get the views of young people across to older generation and if possible, help the young people to make a change for the future. I have had experience of representing young people, as I have been in the Girls Brigade and with them I have been to London to try and make a change for many young people. I learnt many skills which I would love to use and show you by being part of your team.
Being on the Oldham Youth Council seems like a good opportunity for me to learn new things and new skills. I live in Shaw and I feel that the voices of the young people in Shaw need to be heard so I would like a place on the Oldham Youth Council to put the ideas of many young people across and to help make a difference in the future.

Bethan Robinson
Area: Royton, Shaw and Crompton

My name is Bethan and I am in year 9 at Crompton house Schools. I would like to be your youth councillors as I want to work on issues such as;-
Cheap and easy transport for young people,
creating more events Like YPXL where young people can perform, meet people and have fun
more parks being improved like the improvements that have been made to St George’s park in Shaw they have put ramps in Shaw woods for mountain biking – I think they should do more of this.
More support for groups such as the deaf diversity youth group as it provides a place where young deaf people can meet up, have fun and do activities.
I play for Heyside Angels football team and would like to encourage more young people to take up sports as it’s a Great way to make new friends.
The creation of more gaming clubs so young people can meet, share games and hints and then young people will know who they are playing against on line so its safer.
These are just some of my ideas. I am enthusiastic, hard-working and a good listener. I have lots of friends from a variety of schools across Oldham and would live the opportunity to be a youth councillor and represent their views.

Abbie Baker
Area: Royton Shaw and Crompton

My name is Abbie Kay Baker. I am 11 years old and a pupil at Crompton House School in Shaw. I would like to be considered as a member of Oldham Youth Council as I feel I have a voice for the younger people of Shaw/Oldham.

I was previously on my school council at primary school and currently at my secondary school. I am very committed to this attending all meetings and taking my responsibilities seriously. I am very approachable and consider myself understanding and conscious of my peers needs and individual concerns.
I enjoy training, swimming, shopping and of course, Facebook!!

Paddy Maher
Area: Royton, Shaw and Crompton

I have not been on the youth council for very long, but I believe I have so much to give. I have made many good friends on the youth council and my confidence has climbed greatly. When people ask me what is significant about me, I am proud to say that I am part of the OYC and how we change things for the better for the young people of oldham.
I would hate for my journey to end here because I believe that I have the potential to offer lots more. I have been involved in the mental health campaign and the youth image campaign to raise awareness about their relation to youth issues in Oldham.
I recently went on a residential about the tobacco industry and how they target youths into smoking. I found this an inspiring opportunity where I learnt about how young people’s lives are targeted as being in danger. This made me more determined about my campaigning and getting the views of young people heard.
Finally, I find that I am a very useful, creative, motivated, passionate, enthusiastic, fun, lovable, strange, comical, amusing, energetic, thoughtful and considerate young person and…I have so much more to give!!!!

May Wall
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

Hello my name is May Wall, I’m 14 years old, I live in Greenfield and I go to Saddleworth School. I’m on the school council and would like to do something similar within the borough of Oldham. I love where I live and would like to have an input to decisions being made that will affect our future. I often talk to my friends about what we would change if we could (like bus drivers’ attitudes); being on the Youth Council is a brilliant opportunity to help change things for the better.
I hope people will vote for me because I’m confident to speak up for what I believe in and feel that the views of our generation need to be heard. Decisions are being made that will affect our lives and I want to help make sure that the adults who make those decisions take us seriously.
I am a supporter of Amnesty International and I’m as eco-friendly as possible. I believe there is no place in Oldham for racism and I think the Youth Council is a great way for young people from all over Oldham to find out what is similar and different between us.

Rebecca Henshall
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

Hi, I’m Beckie and I’m from Springhead. I have been a youth Councillor for a year as well as working as part of the My Place – young people’s development group. I would really like to support the views of other young people by giving them a voice on things they feel are important.
I would like to organise many events and activities that will help young people share their views.
I would like to be part of the youth council because I feel that the skills and experiences that I have already gained will help and I would also like to continue to gain more new skills and experiences so that I can use these to help other young people.

Andrew Kershaw
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

I would like to see more entertainment in Oldham for kids e.g. cinema films small bowling alley.
I want to bring more cheaper clubs for young people such as dance, drama sports. I would like to improve the facilities for kids in Uppermill and Oldham like having an Astroturf instead of a boggy grass field to play sports on.
I would like to see improvements to bus shelter and the bus stops so vote for me Andrew Kershaw

Ewa Iyanda
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

My name is Ewa Iyanda, I attend Breeze Hill Secondary School. I am in year 7 and in top set for my subjects. I live in the Salem area in Oldham, which is just right at the end of Lees road.
When I heard about the Youth Council I was interested and wondering if I could be among them as I would like to help to make changes in my area.
I have had quite a lot of experience. My leadership started during my primary education as I have shown leadership qualities and give progressive ideas towards the school in general. Last year the school elected me as a school councillor, sports leader and the head girl. This involves good communication, teamwork, cooperation because we were the eldest and had to set good examples to the other students, but also reliability, because you have to be trusted to work with the younger ones but most of all I’m easy to get on with and approachable with a friendly attitude.
I am hoping to improve and have more impact in the community. The major improvement I would like to make is reducing the amount of teens on the street causing trouble, and this can be tackled by maybe starting up youth clubs, after school activities and more social activities.
I would be honoured and delighted to become a youth councillor; it would be a great opportunity for me. Also great benefit to the community and to my future as I want to be a future Lawyer and working with people in the community will be a step forward.
Thank you for reading this.

I joined the youth council to process my ideas to make Oldham a better place not just for youths but for the world as well, I have a load of different skills and qualities such as my confidence because I am not afraid to speak in front of big crowds or other members of the council both youth and adults. I try to turn up to every session but I have to balance it out with my career which is football.
Being on the youth council has helped me out because before I knew about the youth council I was a bit of a bad boy not caring because I had no say in helping Oldham be a better place but now I have been part of the Youth Council I finally realised what I need to succeed in helping Oldham be a better place.
So please vote for me and let me carry on helping Oldham out and become a better youth councillor and a better person

Jason Gilchrist
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

I should be elected to be a youth councillor because I feel strongly about my school and the condition of my area and I would like to improve them. The area I live in hasn’t got that many recreational places I feel that we should have more parks and recreational places. I have recently seen the Oldham youth buses that provide young adults with something to do and I think that they are a good idea it stops people vandalising homes and companies

Being a youth councillor would allow me to meet new people from around Oldham who I wouldn’t have the chance to meet normally. There is one point I would like to get across is there are no lessons in free running which I think would stop Young adults hanging around on street corners to stop them intimidating younger children and older people, I think there is many more points and views I would like to get across to help the area where I live and the areas where other people and other youth councillors live. That is why I would like to be a youth councillor for my area. Thank you for your time.

Ana Sofia Da Silva Dias
Area: East Oldham

Hi my name is Ana Dias, I am 11 years old and I go to Breeze Hill School. I am in year 7. I am from a Portuguese background. I live in Glodwick, Oldham.
I am a really responsible person and I would like to be a youth councillor because I like to help people and see if they are safe. If someone has any problems than I would like to help them and try to sort the problem or is someone has anything that they need to talk about like if they are being bullied or someone is trying to hurt them then. The thing that I would like to change in my area is to make sure that people to make it clean and make sure that when people eat something then after they don’t throw it on the floor or in other peoples gardens. It is not fair that other people have to clean up other people’s rubbish when it is not theirs. I want to improve my area.
I will attend every meeting and will be a good Team member. The reason why I want to be a youth councillor is so that maybe I can make a change in my area by making sure that children have activities that they can go to in their holidays and in the weekends like badminton court and tennis court or maybe even a football pitch so that they don’t stay at home bored with nothing to do.
This is really good opportunity for me to express myself so that people know what my personality is like. It would be good if I could get this chance to make a big change in my area. If there any other things that you want me to do then I will be up for the job.
I really want to give this a try and maybe I can change the things that are wrong.

Josh Brierley
Area: Saddleworth and Lees

I would like to be voted back on to Oldham Youth Council because I have already learnt so much but would like the opportunity to learn more and put all my experiences into good use.
In the last year I have been involved in many residentials where I have met new people with whom I have formed lasting friendships.
I have attended and Helped out at various conferences covering themes such as homophobic bullying, Preventing Violent extremism, and E- Safety.
I have been part of campaign groups who have campaigned for cheaper transport, road safety and mental health Awareness. If re elected I will continue to work on ensuring these campaigns are successful. I thoroughly enjoy being a youth councillor and want to continue of be part of this fantastic group of dedicated young people who have such a huge positive influence on the lives of people now and in years to come.

I will make sure that everyone is safe and happy. I will also bring new ideas for the welfare of the youth council.
I will always arrive on time in all the meetings. And will be organized and a good Team Worker.
The reason I want to be on the Youth Council is because I want to make a change in my area. I will make sure it’s clean, so people from different areas or the people that are not from Clarksfield come and visit. I want to be a youth councillor because I want to help little children to improve their studies and other things as well.
If I am successful then I would be really excited and I will make a big change in my area. The change that I would make is that my area should be cleaned. I will encourage them. I will make sure no one is fighting on the streets. I will work with the youth council to keep tidiness where I will work and I will make sure where I live is clean as well. There are approximately 5.5 million young people living in Britain today. I believe that it is highly important for these young people to have say in what happens in their area and on a national level too.
I believe that the youth should be given a platform from which they can communicate and voice their opinions. It is essential for the development of society and our borough that we constantly engage with the youth and allow them to express themselves and take an interest in helping to improve Oldham; and make decisions that will shape their future. My personal interests are meeting new people, listening to music, spending time with my Friends and having fun.

Ebony Maria James
Area: West Oldham

Hi everyone, my names Ebony Maria James. I am interested in joining Oldham Youth Council as I believe I can bring fresh and new ideas, help with community cohesion and represent the voice of young people both from school and the area - I want the voices of the quieter people and the less confident people to have a say in their community. I’m not afraid of having an opinion or fighting for what young people and I believe in. I’m dedicated, committed and I work very hard at what I do. I get on well with everyone and I like to avoid any sense of conflict between groups. As well as fighting for what I believe in, I would like to learn a variety of new skills like organising an event, team building, debates, and working with new people. I would like to enjoy it and the feel of achievement would make me move onto bigger and better things. I enjoy working with older people within my age range, I believe I can learn a lot from them. If I was elected It would help me gain life experiences, make new friends and help me become more independent and confident.

I have lived in Oldham for my entire life, and so have watched the changes which have been made over the years. I truly do believe that Oldham as a community is developing and I would love to be involved in making it better. I think it is an excellent thing that young people have a voice and as a young person in Oldham who is willing to listen and represent, I think that I would be an excellent candidate. I have been involved with many things within my school, such as the Pupil Council and organising fundraisers for the Haiti Appeal, but would now like to branch out into helping and being involved with the wider community.

I believe everyone should be treated equally. My personal interests are to make sure all young people have their voices heard. I don’t believe in stereotypes. If I was elected I would like to help make sure that all young people are treated with respect. I will try to gain more access to activities to do at the times they want to do them. I would also like to try to apply for funding for other youth centres where needed. So vote for me Razwan
