Candidates
Jenny Irwin Age: 14
My personal interests are Football and sports. If I were elected I would improve facilities and equipment for all young people to access.
Rebecca Warrior Age: 16
I am very much against prejudice and discrimination and feel that everyone in Oldham and the world should be treated as equal. I am worried about the environment and feel that more green space is needed within the Oldham area. Also I think school buses should be taken care of. If I was elected, I would like to work with other organisations to promote the need to abolish prejudice and discrimination in the Oldham area, whether this means coming up with poster ideas to be put up in schools and offices or coming up with different events where people can integrate. I would also like to sort out the state of school buses, as they seem unsafe with so many people on them. Another thing I would like to do is try and see if more green area can be found and put to better use in the Oldham area.
Jonathan Milton Age: 13
In my spare time I play the drums and I am interested in extreme sports such as freeride, mountain biking, windsurfing, skateboarding and many other things. I also enjoy rock climbing and listening to music. If I was elected, I would try and get Uppermill skatepark extended, stop the demolition of the Buckstones Quarry bike trail. I would also like to stop stereotyping and ageism against young people. I would promote healthy eating and exercise. Also we need more venues where unsigned bands can play for free.
Stuart Schofield Age:13
My personal interests are biking, Skateboarding, rugby, football and reading. If I was to be elected, I would like more areas for young people to hang around in rather than outside shops.
Luke Suban Age: 13
My personal interests are skate boarding, computer games, bike riding and watching TV, preferably the Simpsons, Southpark and the Catherine Tate Show. I also play the guitar and am involved in a band. If I were elected, I would get cheaper bus fares for young people and have more things to do in the school holidays. I would also like more places for bands to be able to practise and more skate parks within Oldham.
Lauren Williamson Age:15
I believe in equal rights for all young people regardless of race, gender and religion. I love drama and singing and I am a very outgoing person. I am a confident speaker and I am not afraid to speak in public and express my feelings. I am very enthusiastic about this role and its responsibilities. If I was elected I have a passion to speak out on behalf of young people to try and reduce stereotyping. I would try to deliver more community cohesion events across the borough to stop racial abuse. I will work on behalf of young people to improve the image of them into the community. I will work hard to get better public transport for young people. I would like to organise activities for young people for what they want, i.e. music events and international exchanges.
Stephen Cronin Age: 15
I feel strongly about protecting the environment and conservation of public green areas. I am en active member of after school activities. My interests are learning and taking up new opportunities. If I were elected I would lobby transport companies to put on more school buses. I would help young people access part-time work. I would campaign for more litterbins where young people hang out. On behalf of young people I would help to improve facilities and places for them to go.
Scott Malpas Age: 14
I believe that sport is good for you to keep healthy. I support Oldham Athletic and I am a Manchester United fan. My sport interests are boxing and rugby. If I were elected I would promote boxing as a way of challenging aggression, but not promoting fighting.
Daniel Satchell Age: 14
I believe in improvements of sports for young people in school and leisure. Also independent musical interests for all young people. If I were elected, I would try and make bus fares cheaper and improve local transportation. I would allow more access to leisure facilities for young people.
