Shaw and Crompton electoral ward
Candidates
Jonathan Fowler Age: 16
I believe in giving opportunities to people and helping make the world a better place. My personal interests are sports, music and trying new things. If I were elected, I would open more opportunities for young people who don't have a chance to do them, for example disabled people and those who are less well off. I would try to ensure more youth centres are open at night for young people and more facilities are available. I would also offer courses for smokers, alcoholics and drug addicts to help them break the habit.
Anneliese Roddison Age: 15
I believe that everybody has the right to their own opinions, and people should not be judged by what they say. If I were elected I would respect peoples ideas and try to help the areas that need improving. I would try to express the young peoples thoughts and try to get young people more respected.
Emma Delves Age: 14
I believe that an unnatural size 10 should be abolished and that beauty comes from within. I also believe in freedom of speech and that stereotypes are wrong. I would take in other people's opinions as well as my own to try and help the area. I would let everyone give their opinions because everyone should be able to express their views, as everyone should be valued. If someone said something I would take it into account and discuss it with the rest of the council. Then I would try and make speech turn into actions. My main concern would be to make areas safer for youths.
Sarah Thornley Age: 15
I believe Police should be on the streets more than doing paperwork. I would try to change the stereotypes of young people.
Heather Dennis Age: 13
I believe in animal welfare and human rights, also in finding cures for illnesses. I support different charities: Dogs Trust, RSPCA, WSPA, Fair-Trade, Cancer Research, Sport and Comic Relief and Children in Need. If I was elected I would like to create more fundraising events to support the charities above. I would do this by sponsored runs, sport days and mini enterprises. I would also like to open a tuck shop in school stocked only with fair trade products. I would also like to change the Face of Oldham' adding new features to the town.
